Who get killed before they reach Bombay
(I don't care how recognisable that is. It's a brilliant lyric).
]]>I wonder if there is anyone in the whole world whose favourite bands are Blur and Focus!
Roughly the same number whose favourite bands are Queens Of The Stone Age and The Corrs.
]]>You mean Melt?
Yes, sorry, duly amended
]]>15 minutes in and I'm taking a break, partly as I have other things to do but also the style of it is so irritating. It's made to the same formula as most factual TV sadly now is; overlong introductory montage of bits we're going to see later anyway, too many fast edits, a question gets asked then there's instantly a cutaway, and near-continuous unnecessary intrusive background music. The busy style is also jarring against PC's now much slower measured speech.
I'll probably end up watching the whole thing in sections but it's hard work.
Right. I appreciate it is free, and any Phil content is good news, but...
The editing is driving me mad. It seems like every piece last a few seconds, and then we are off to something else.
For me, the whole thing is edited like it's a 2 hour trailer.
You've got Phil Collins. Ask him a question. And let him answer.
I'm glad people are enjoying it though, and I hope to finish it eventually!
]]>I love it, but prefer the shorter version.
]]>Well, there are also Since I Lost You and Fading Lights.
FL isn't a death song as such, it's someone late in life looking back while accepting it must all end sometime.

]]>This is what Tony said about the reissue for those who don't want to go though the podcast.
Tony Banks – Sending Signals Podcast 2nd October 2024
So, tell me about From Genesis To Revelation because this is the album that you generally disown.
What they have done is try and go back to the original mixes, and try and sort of clarify them a bit and do different versions of it and stuff. And I’ve listened to a few bits and pieces and some of it sounds really good, I think. Pete’s voice sound great which is not surprising, actually I sound alright too [laughs]. But sometimes the drums and some of the guitar work is not quite as good but it’s alright. Some songs I think sound great, the opening track “Where The Sour Turns To Sweet” the chorus part of that sounds tremendous you know and the rest of It’s ok. The song that everyone goes on about, that everyone seems to like now is “The Conqueror” which has Gallagher approval apparently [laughs]...
...a few other bit and pieces on the compilation I think some of the old demos and some of the things that didn’t make it. All the kind of As and B sides, so you get “A Winter’s Tale”…
One Eyed Hound and that kinda stuff.
One Eyed Hound which was a b side yeah and a couple of others…
So just quick, is it you sort of did the ai de-mixing thing on From Genesis to isolate the stems and things, have you taken out the orchestra. What’s the overall purpose of a remix, is there an angle that they’ve come in with?
I think the angle is that Esoteric have got it and they want to do something with it [laughs]. I’m very happy for them to do it, their idea was to try and get rid of the orchestra. Ant in particular [was] unkeen on the orchestrations that were done. Although I don’t think they were all that bad, some of them are alright. So we kind of got them out, interesting “In The Beginning” where [King] slapped on this double bass line that went all the way through it and we got rid of that and hearing what Mike played, the original bass line was great, don’t know why we… it was just very strange to hear it and it sounded pretty good.
Thanks for putting this here. Hope it will be something special. Let's be patient.
]]>I don't think it's an issue of Mike "not caring". I think he was proud of Smallcreep's Day when it came out, and he didn't do it for "the money", but now he simply doesn't feel that close to it, and would prefer to be remembered by what he did with the Mechanics.
If this is indeed his thinking it's entirely understandable. Fans tend to have a distorted view of artists' work and project their own feelings and opinions on to it, which to an extent is logical enough but it can create in their minds a sense of dismay that the artist isn't doing what the fan thinks they should, especially regarding work they particularly like. It often manifests on here in the posts saying that other bands do all sorts of remasters, out-takes and demos releases, so Genesis should too but that goes against everything we know about this band and its members. The fact they are much less inclined to mine their past, and have very exacting standards, gets wrongly interpreted as "not caring".

For me, it's one of the highlights on PG4 on the one hand - on the other hand, I always think it could even be better. I just don't know what's missing.
Sums it up for me!
makes sense to me - 13 from me also.
Thinking about it... the orchestral version is better. That might be what was missing ....
And this as well

]]>Most recently, last week I saw Nilufer Yanya at the Academy - the University of Manchester SU, not another O2 venue thankfully - and Julia Holter at Band On The Wall, which is so tiny it's one of those places there's no front barrier, if you're at the front you lean against the stage and look up the performers' nostrils.
Both very different shows and both excellent at the end of what's been a great year for gigs. As I write this I'm heading back to Manchester for my final gig of 2024 tomorrow, a promising artist called Paul McCartney at another new venue for me, the Co-Op Live Arena about which I hear encouraging things. Given how good this year's been for gigs the young chap's got a lot to live up to and better be on top of his game.

]]>I don't know much about his work and life, so looked up his setlist.fm and wikipedia entries. I noticed that yes he concentrates on touring Poland, where I gather he lives, and especially Germany. He does a lot of live work, mainly in those countries with occasional visits to other surrounding nations. I'm assuming these are small venues, clubs and theatres? Where presumably he gets decent numbers and appreciative audiences. I suppose he perceives that there'd be very little or no interest beyond those territories so he's being practical.
5 of his top 10 most frequently performed live tracks are Genesis, with FYFM the top, plus PG/PC solo and Stiltskin tracks. He's done the occasional M&tMs one but so far as I could see, no Banks or Hackett tracks.
Anyone here been to any RW gigs?
Yes I have seen plenty (not too difficult, I live in Germany). We have also followed his solo career from the beginning and yes, he mainly plays clubs and theatres.
He did a Ray Wilson & Stiltskin only tour once (promoting the SHE album), where he didn't play any Genesis and of course there's the gig around his 50th birthday, where he also didn't play Genesis stuff.
Ray would do another UK or US tour if there's a promoter taking the risk, which I fully understand.
Personally, I'd love to see him being more focused on his solo tracks, but of course, playing the genesis stuff etc is also creating an audience.
This new song is indeed a good example that he's also good in singing other people's stuff - so far he has refused to record an album with cover versions (have asked him twice), but eventually his last album "The Weight of man" contains "Golden Slumbers" by the Beatles ...
