Live Tracks

To mark the anniversary edition of his most successful album So, Gabriel went on tour to present the album live in its entirety for the first time. The so-called Back To Front tour began in America in September 2012, was interrupted by a “self-imposed break” from October of the same year to September of the following year and continued in Europe in fall 2013, spring and fall 2014. The setlists of the concerts hardly varied during the entire period, although two unfinished songs were played alongside the new, finished song Why Don’t You Show Yourself?, O But (Daddy Long Legs) and What Lies Ahead. As before, the tour was documented with the unedited soundboard recordings from the Encore series…

Demos

From 2014, Peter Gabriel started new sessions for his next album. “Proof photos” repeatedly appeared on his social media channels showing his work-in-progress on computer monitors. On closer inspection, you could see the names of the project files: here comes love version 18 (October 2014), cutup idea 117 (February 2015), cutup idea 1121 (March 2015), Radio E song version 6 (May 2015), cutup idea right mulas (25th march), ref 3 (June 2015), idea 330, the In and Out song version 1 (6th February 2016), idea 26 (26th February 2016). One of them appeared in excerpts as a cell phone video on the Internet…

Non-Album activities

An interpretation of the 9Bach track Deryn from the album Anian, spoken by Peter Gabriel, appeared exclusively on the bonus disc of the longplayer. In 2015, his own new songs took on a more concrete form. Peter donated one to the “Radio Everyone” campaign for the UN Global Goals, an internet radio station with prominent supporters. Another gave its name to the tour that was to follow in 2016. Both songs were also candidates for the setlist…

Live Tracks

Surprisingly for everyone, Peter announced a joint North American tour with Sting for June and July 2016, which had a few surprises in store under the name Rock Paper Scissors. In addition to the new song Love Can Heal, which was dedicated to the murdered politician Jo Cox, he played a version of the Sting classic If You Love Somebody, Set Them Free, supported Sting on his songs and was accompanied by him on his own tracks…

Non-Album Tracks

In addition to the surprise release of the older track I’m Amazing to mark the death of Muhammad Ali, Peter also released a new studio track in 2016, which he wrote for the movie Snowden. In the same year, he fulfilled a long-cherished wish of the breakthrough band OneRepublic: a joint song. Peter also contributed some material to the Bosnian-Turkish animated film Birds Like Us, from which the song Everybird has since been released.

Over the years, various unheard tracks have also been registered in the databases of the collecting societies of BMI, GEMA & Co. and have yet to be identified. Their titles are Lost And Found, Eat The Food (2012), Just Add Water (2014), Reverse (2016), Verum Kirk (2018)…

Album Tracks

By summer 2022, the recordings of the twelve selected tracks had been completed and were then passed on to three mixers. In December 2022, Peter Gabriel finally let the world know that there would be a new, regular studio album in 2023. It would indeed be called i/o – just as he had announced 20 years ago in 2004. 23 songs were still in the works at the end. From January 2023, a new track will initially be released every full moon. On December 1, 2023, i/o was finally released as a complete album – in three mix versions: Stereo mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Bright-Side Mix) and by Tchad Blake (Dark-Side Mix), as well as mixed in Dolby-Atmos by Hans-Martin Buff (In-Side Mix)…
