Around New Year's Eve 1980/81, the album Walking Into Mirrors by Johnny Warman was finished with a lot of contribution from the Gabriel camp, Peter himself contributed to the first single release. Also there was a collaboration with Sham 69-Frontmann Jimmy Pursey.....

Peter took a lot of time for his fourth album (at least from the perspective at the time). The reason for this could also be that he had to record the album at home with rented equipment and so he did not need to stick to studio time schedules, which left more time for experimental sessions. The TV show Southbank Show, quite popular among fans, gives a good insight in the way he worked in those days (click here). The album recording sessions were finished by the summer of 1982...
Two additional tracks were recorded during this time, but didn't make it on the final album track listing...
The fourth album was also translated into German. The tracks were released in slightly modified versions with lyrics sung in German as Deutsches Album...
Quite a few alternate versions of the album tracks were eventually released officially or inofficially. Among them are some instrumental versions, which were used for a short film about an exhibition of an asian dollmaker, while three further reworked versions were used for the Birdy Soundtrack. On top of that, there are a large number of edits and remixes...

The tour supporting the album was called Playtime 88 and started (after two special events during the first WOMAD festival in July) at the end of October 1982 and lasted (with a half year break) a year. Again, the live set provided some space for yet unheared non album tracks ...

After four studio albums, it was time for Peter to release a proper live album - he did this with the double album Plays Live...
Singles supporting the live album contained further material. Also the version on Plays Live of I Don't Remember was used for the new video mix on the PLAY video compilation...
An interesting remake of the track Dog One, which was only played once during the WOMAD festival, was released by Tony Levin in 2002. Peter Gabriel himself was not involved, but nearly his whole band from 1982 was. A theme of the track Wallflower was altered for the track At Night for the Birdy-Soundtrack. New recordings of the songs The Rhythm Of The Heat, San Jacinto and Wallflower were made in 2010/11 for his orchestral album New Blood.
Collaboration between Peter Gabriel and OneRepublic from 2016
The return favour album: Peter Gabriel's songs are covered by other artists.
