Genesis: Details about the download from the official fanclub

It has been discussed in our forum, too: Genesis, or rather their service provicer Ultrastar announced a “fanclub CD” in 2008 for all paying members of the former official Genesis website. They also promised it would contain rare recordings, perhaps demos, work-in-progress versions of songs and other interesting and, above all, unreleased material. 

The release of the CD was postponed time and time again until the official fanclub vanished – and the website with it. Many fans have then attempted to get compensation for their membership fee. Attentive readers of our forum may have read in May that the former official site would offer a download instead of a CD, and that this download would be available via LiveNation, of which Ultrastar is a subsidiary. This information was confirmed to us by the Genesis management.

This download will, as has been revealed recently, become available soon. It will not contain any rare material, though, but recordings of the 2007 tour rehearsals in Toronto (05/09/2007). Unreleased as they may be, they are also unspectacular because during these rehearsals the band did not play anything that was not part of the regular set.

This announcement has caused some very strong reactions by fans who were also members of the official fanclub.

We would like to point out again that the German Genesis fanclub it with its website genesis-news.com is strictly an independent fan project while the official fanclub was set up by the Genesis management during the 2007 reunion.
