Peter Gabriel: New album “closer than you think”
It’s been a while since we got an album with completely new songs from Peter Gabriel. That was UP in 2002, when Gabriel himself announced that another album would be released within 18 months and would be called I/O. Since then, I/O has been synonymous with a new Gabriel album (see also our website special The Making Of I/O) – but since then, several tours, re-releases, albums like Scratch My Back, New Blood, Rated PG and other releases have come in between. However, this year there were rumours that Gabriel was working more consistently on new songs. And so it seems – Peter revealed to the Italian news magazine SPECCHIO that they had recently worked on 17 songs in the studio – as a band for 10 days. And: “It it happening – it’s closer than you think”.
Although a release this year seems unlikely, it actually looks like we can slowly but surely look forward to a new studio album.
