Paul Carrack announces Mechanics album project

Paul Carrack has surprisingly announced the release of the album Get Up under the band name Paul + The Mechanics. It is a collaboration with his former bandmates Peter van Hooke and Adrian Lee. Other guest musicians are also old friends. Tim Renwick plays guitar on four of the nine tracks and Gary Wallis co-produced the album.
The track Finally Back Home will be released tomorrow as the first single. The album will be released on 22 April 2025 and will then be available on all streaming services. A CD version is then available via the Carrack-UK webshop. Further online shops will follow.

Tracklist:
1. Get Up (Before Sunset)
2. Pretending Nothing Happened
3. Black & White
4. Come Rain Or Shine
5. Finally Back Home
6. The Tall, Bad And Ugly
7. By Airmail
8. There’s No Second Chance
9. No More Coffee
Stylistically, the album goes back to the early Mike & The Mechanics years and is much more rock and less bluesy than Carrack’s solo albums of recent years. This, as well as the rather provocative band name, is no coincidence, says Paul. Adrian, Peter and Carrack himself are as much The Mechanics as Mike Rutherford’s current band. He missed working with them and is happy that they are involved in the project, as are the other ex-Mechanics. And it looks like they are planning for the long term with this line-up, with an extensive tour planned for the autumn and enough ideas and demos left over from the recording sessions to make another album in the near future.
When we asked Paul’s record company, Carrack-UK, they confirmed that the rights to the iconic Mechanics logo had expired after 40 years and that it has been free to use since the beginning of 2025.
