Peter Gabriel: “Biko (Wellow School Version)” on Bandcamp

Peter has released an alternative version of Biko on Bandcamp on today’s new moon, called the Wellow School Version.
After the surprising studio version of I Go Swimming for the last full moon, there is another version of the song Biko for today’s new moon: The Wellow School Version.
This version of Biko, was recorded in June, 1980 with The Looking Glass School, in Wellow, Somerset.
The school, formed in 1979, was an arts and crafts focussed primary and middle school founded by the British-American artist Jann Haworth, a leading figure in the British Pop Art movement and pioneer of soft sculpture.
Haworth is also the co-creator, along with her then husband Peter Blake, of the The Beatles 1967 Sgt. Pepper’’s Loney Hearts Club Band album cover and is an advocate for feminist rights, especially for the representation of women in the art world.
Peter says about the Wellow School Version:
I’d known Jann and Peter and their alternative school and I was very interested in the way they experimented with education. I kept in touch and was invited to do a project with the kids, which is when this version of Biko was recorded
