Peter Gabriel: “The Boy In The Bubble / Biko” released on iTunes
This weekend has seen the second iTunes-45 release from the album Scratch My Back, and it is the song couple The Boy In The Bubble / Biko.
In the current Full Moon video about this release (the
feed is also available via an iphone app) John Metcalf, Bob Ezrin and Peter
Gabriel talk about how Gabriel’s version of The Boy In The Bubble developed. They explain why the song is markedly more measured and why the lyrics played a decisive role. Peter enthuses so much about the song that he loses track of the time when he says that “it is one of the best lyrics of the last 20 years” – Paul Simon’s album Graceland came out in 1986.
Paul Simon covers Biko and gives us a a mellow version that borrows from his live performance of the song. Simon lends the song sound a different flavour in that he has recorded it without any drums. Paul Simon can also be seen in the new Full Moon Special.
The Boy In The Bubble / Biko is available exclusively from iTunes.
