Phil Collins: Promo video, info about album formats

Going Back: The new Phil Collins album will be released in September. Currently, there are a lot of new facts, but also a lot of rumours circulating. We try to sum up the relevant news here.

1. Going Back – Promo clip

You may have seen it on amazon’s product pages already – a five minute promotional clip has been published. The video is kind of a “Making Of” and since it is on YouTube already, we can show it here:

Interesting is for sure the passage that explains Phil’s Handicap during the sessions.

2. Going Back – Concerts

Phil played a couple of showcase concerts in June and July. As of today, further shows are not scheduled, even though there are rumours regarding some kind of event on 4th August as well as additional shows in Germany and France towards the end of the year. So far, nothing like that has been confirmed or announced.

A report about the opening show in Philadelphia is already online here. Furthermore, we are working on two new reviews (New York City and Montreux). They should be ready by next week. The review can be found here after publication.

3. Going Back – Formats

a) Exclusive Limited Edition

Only available on the official website, yo can now order an exclusive limited edition. This version of the new album Going Back is limited to 4500 copies! It contains the Special Edition CD/DVD of the album (see below) as well as A3-Lithographs of hand-signed lyric sheets and
four signed A6-Lithographs showing rare photos.

b) Standard CD

d) Vinyl-LP

The 18-track version of the album will also be available on Vinyl (2LP). This 2LP will be released on he same day as the standard CD (13 Sep 2010 Europe / 14 Sep 2010 NA).

e). Singles Limited Edition

This will surely be THE collector’s item. The box contains no less than 15 (!) Vinyl-Singles. So here we have 30 tracks that will be published with this box. This may cover all recordings of the sessions. At this time this boset can only be ordered on the official Warner/Atlantic Records Collins website. It is totally unclear whether or not the set will be availble in retail stores at some point.

Further songs in this set are Tears Of A Clown and Too Busy Thinking About My Baby, that will be new recordings, not the old Ohil versions, and a 2010 live-version of My Girl.

At ths point we have no information which formats will be available as MP3-downloads on iTunes and other MP3-stores.

g) Going Back – Live DVD

A live-DVD will be released towards the end of this year. It will contain the performance in New York from June 2010.

General information: There are plenty of formats and tracklistings announced, especially in far east. The information about the above mentioned versions of the new album was taken mainly from the
Atlantic / Warner websites and correspondences. The release date is alsosubject to rumours. We can confirm that at this point the album will be released in Germany first (10th September), then in the UK and Europe (13th September) and then in North America and the rest of the world (14th September). This only applies to the standard-version and the special edition of the album. Several special formats may still be released at a later date.
