Phil Collins wins Johnny Mercer Award

Before Collins embarks on a small concert trip with his 18 head Motown band, he will be given the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award at the Marriott hotel, New York, on June 17. Interestingly, previous winners of the award include songwriters with whose songs he is going on tour now: Holland/Dozier/Holland, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder.

Other laureates in 2010 are Leonard Cohen and the creative heads of Earth, Wind & Fire, amongst them Collins’s former duet partner Phillip Bailey.
