Prince’s Trust Gala: Phil drums, Mike plays old hits
More information has reached us about yesterday’s performance of both Phil Collins and Mike + The Mechanics at the Prince’s Trust gala. They have been collected from various fan forums of the musicians and bands that performed at the show (e.g. from here).
According to those sources Phil Collins sang Heatwave, My Girl and You Can’t Hurry Love. Far more interesting, however, is the fact that he also played the drums during Eric Clapton’s set and during the finale (We Will Rock You). For the first time since his spine injury he played the drums without having to tape the sticks to his hands.
Mike opted for old favourites for the relaunch of the new Mechanics line-up. Andrew Roachford sang a Carrack song, Over My Shoulder, while Tim Howar sang All I Need Is A Miracle, a Young song. There had been speculations that the two would share their vocal duties along these lines. According to most recent information they did not play any new material. Neither was there a joint performance by Phil and Mike. Photos from the show can be seen at this FlickR linkand also here. bild.de also has a brief video (in German, and dubbed). A second video can be seen here.
The concert, or excerpts from it, will be broadcast on TV. The Rock Gala 2010 is going to be shown on Sky 3D on December 19. More information as we get it.
