With the release of Scratch My Back Peter Gabriel has fulfilled his contract with EMI in Europe. In North America the album had already come out as an independent release. The rights to the back catalogue have also expired last year. The current album version will therefore soon be out of print. iTunes still has the Gabriel albums; they also offer a bonus track version of So that is called So+ (we reported). The MP3 albums are offered directly by RealWorld / Peter Gabriel.
Peter Gabriel has now announced that he intends to re-release his back catalogue. He did not give any further details, though he mentioned So in particular because the 1986 album will have its 25th anniversary in 2011. He announced that there would be a special package for the album and mentioned alternate versions, demos etcetera. Nothing has been said as to whether the opportunity will be used to create further 5.1 versions of the albums. When he spoke about the SACD releases in 2003 he had insinuated that all albums except for the first two could by mixed in 5.1.
One thing is certain, though: There will be changes in the album sleeves and the album artwork. Peter has asked an artist to examine the artwork and add new ideas to it.
Peter continues work on his upcoming album New Blood that is to come out in spring. The live DVD from the New Blood tour will be released "some day", he added. There may be a couple of shows in Argentina at the end of the year, though that is not certain yet.
Peter Gabriel provided these news in the current Full Moon Club video.
Peter Gabriel created a mixture of the World Music in Passion with the Mainstream of So.
