Part 3: Face Value | 1979 - 1981

Last update: 9 May 2023

1979

Phil Collins unfortunately couldn't use his time out in Vancouver, Canada, to save his marriage. He found distraction immediately after his return when he holed up in Ringo Starr's studio with his buddies from Brand X to record material for a new album. In the course of 1979, Phil Collins tinkered with his own songs in his home "Old Croft", where he had set up a small home studio, in which he could process his failed marriage. In May and June of that year, Phil concentrates on his band Genesis again when they record their new album ABACAB for the first time in their own, newly set-up studio "The Farm". Without any deadline pressure, they take the time to let the majority of the songs develop there first, but the Collins song Man On The Corner is also used. Ideas from his demo for Don't Break My Heart are also found on the non-album Track Me & Virgil. Probably in the summer of 1981, Phil finds the time to join Rupert Hine in the studio again for a percussion track and to record drums for ex-Procul Harum mastermind Gary Brooker's second solo album...
